Preposition (পদান্বয়ী অব্যয় বা সমন্ধসূচক অব্যয়)
যে সকল শব্দ Noun বা Pronoun এর পূর্বে বসে কোনো কিছুর অবস্থান নির্দেশ করে, তাদেরকে Preposition বলে।যেমন-
In, on, to, under, behind, up, above, over, in front of ইত্যাদি।

1. Prepositions of Place:
In/Inside
কোনো কিছুর মধ্যে বা ভিতরে বুঝাতে in/Inside ব্যবহৃত হয়৷
The boy is in the room.
The ball is in the box.
The fish is in the pond.
I saw a bird inside the garden.
On
উপরে স্পর্শ করে একটি জিনিস থাকলে on ব্যবহৃত হয়।
There is a book on the table.
I see a bird on the wall.
The chair is on the floor
Put the pen on the desk.
Under
কিছুর নিচে বুঝাতে under ব্যবহার করা হয়।
The man is under the tree.
The box is under the table.
Below
সাধারণ ভাবে কোনো কিছুর নিচে বুঝাতে below ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Up
Up
সাধারণ ভাবে কোনো কিছুর উপরে বুঝাতেup ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The bottle is up the shelf.

Above
স্পর্শ না করে উপরে আছে বুঝাতে above ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The sky is above our heads.
The roof is above your head.
The fan is above his head.
Over
স্পর্শ না করে উপরে চলমান থাকলে over ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The bird is flying over their heads.
The fox jumped over the fence.
The aero plane flew over his head.
Beside
পাশে থাকা বুঝাতে beside ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The man is beside the boy.
The ball is beside the box.
The tree is beside the house.
Behind
পিছনে থাকলে behind ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The man is behind the table.
The pond is behind the house.
There is a ball behind the box.
In front of
সামনে বুঝাতে in front of ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The road is in front of the house.
There is a garden in front of the house.
The glass is in front of you.
Near to/Close to
কাছাকাছি বুঝাতে near to ও close to ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Your house is near to my house.
Keep the chair close to the table.
The ball is near to the box.
Next to
কোনো কিছুর পরবর্তীতে বুঝাতে next to ব্যবহৃত হয়।
My room is next to your room.
The ball is next to the bat.
The library is next to the supermarket.
Outside
বাহিরে থাকা বুঝাতে outside ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Rony is outside the room.
The pen is outside the box.
He is outside his office.
2. Prepositions of time
On
বার ও তারিখের পূর্বে on ব্যবহার করা হয়।
His birthday is on Monday.
I shall meet you on Saturday.
The meeting is on 1stSeptember.
Our Shaheed Dibosh is on 21st
February.
In
সকাল, বিকাল, সন্ধ্যা এর পূর্বে in বসে।
I saw him in the morning.
We play football in the afternoon.
They will meet you in the evening.
এছাড়া বছর বা সাল, মাস, ঋতু ইত্যাদির পূর্বে in ব্যবহৃত হয়।
I shall go there in January.
She was born in 1995.
His birthday is in June.
They went to village in winter.
It is very hot in summer.
At
সময়ের আগে at
ব্যবহৃত হয়।
I take my breakfast at 8 a.m.
They went there at 5 p.m.
এছাড়া noon ও night এর পূর্বে at ব্যবহৃত হয়।
I take my lunch at noon.
He said goodbye at night.
For
কিছু সময় যাবৎ কোনো কাজ চলতে থাকলে সে সময়ের পূর্বে for ব্যবহৃত হয়।
I have been waiting for 10 minutes.
They have been playing for 1 hour.
She has been cooking for 20 minutes.
From/Since
কোনো নির্দিষ্ট সময় হতে বুঝাতে from/since ব্যবহার করতে হয়।
I have been reading since morning.
It has been raining since last night.
We have been writing from morning.
Before
কোনো নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের পূর্বে বুঝাতে before ব্যবহৃত হয়।
We shall reach before sunrise.
She came before the sunset.
After
কোনো নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের পরে বুঝাতে after ব্যবহার করা হয়।
We reached there after sunset.
He will go after the ceremony.
Within
কোনো নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের মধ্যে বুঝাতে within ব্যবহৃত হয়।
I will come back within 1 hour.
They will meet you within 10 minutes.
By
সাধারণ ভাবে ঘড়িতে সময় কত, তা বুঝাতে by ব্যবহৃত হয়।
What is the time by your watch?
It is 5:30 by my watch.
Till/still
পর্যন্ত বুঝাতে till/still ব্যবহৃত হয়।
We waited till midnight.
You can stay till Monday.
Still, the work is not
done.
From…. to
কোনো একটি সময় হতে শুরু হয়ে অপর একটি সময় পর্যন্ত বুঝাতে From…. To ব্যবহৃত হয়।
কোনো একটি সময় হতে শুরু হয়ে অপর একটি সময় পর্যন্ত বুঝাতে From…. To ব্যবহৃত হয়।
He has been reading from 5 to 7 o’clock.
We shall be playing from 3 to 4 p.m.
Sanjida will be singing from 10 to
10:30 o’clock.
3. Prepositions of movement
Onto
গতিশীল অবস্থায় কোনো কিছুর উপরে এসে পড়লে সেক্ষেত্রে onto ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The cat jumped onto the table.
The man fall onto the ground.
The fox jumped onto the wall.
Into
গতিশীল অবস্থায় কোনো স্থানে প্রবেশ করা বুঝালে into ব্যবহৃত হয়।
He entered into the room quickly.
They went into the office.
The boy came into the room suddenly.
Over
গতিশীল অবস্থায় কোনো কিছুর উপর দিয়ে লাফিয়ে পার হওয়ার ক্ষেত্রে over ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The fox jumped over
the fence.
The horse jumped over the wall.
Through
গতিশীল অবস্থায় কোনো কিছুর মধ্যে দিয়ে অতিক্রম করার ক্ষেত্রে through ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The tiger ran through the forest.
The cat jumped through the window.
The rat walked through the pipe.
Across
আড়াআড়ি কোনো কিছু অতিক্রম করার ক্ষেত্রে across ব্যবহৃত হয়।
We walked across the field.
The girl ran across the road.
The dog ran across the garden.
Along
বরাবর কোনো দিকে গতিশীল অবস্থায় থাকার ক্ষেত্রে Along ব্যবহৃত হয়।
